Lancaster Capital Day, 2026
On September 27, 1777, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, served as the U.S. capital for less than 24 hours. A brief moment in history, perhaps—but certainly worthy of an annual celebration!
This year’s festivities coincided with a nor’easter that was pummeling East Coast beach towns, with Lancaster catching the fringes of the storm. During my visit, though, the weather amounted to little more than drizzle and a few gusts of wind—nothing to dampen the spirits of those gathered.
With reenactors, protesters (not protesting Lancaster!), a drum corps, and plenty more to see, it was a fantastic morning celebrating the city’s moment in the national spotlight.
If you spot yourself in any of the photos, send me a note. I’d love to hear from you!
